Alternative Medicine, What Is It?
Alternative medicine is becoming a accepted decision for healthful-conscious individuals, yet many people are unsure just exactly what the term encompasses. Many People have even asked their doctors, “What is alternative medicine?”, yet they get no clear answer. Primarily, alternative medicine is any sort of remedy or treatment that is used instead of tradititional type of medical treatment most of us grew up with. You know what I mean… you feel ill, make an appointment with your doctor, and you go in to see him. You sit in the waiting area with a collection of other diseased people, hoping that none of them are too contagious. Finally, you are called back to see the doctor. You leave with a prescription or two, stop at the drugstore to get your prescriptions filled, and go home to bed. In a few days, you may or may not feel halfway human again. I like a lot of the treatments you've listed here, but I am concerned about the central idea: a dichotomy between allopathic and osteopathic or "alternative" medicine. The popular phrasing itself embodies what, in my opinion, is simultaneously the great appeal and the epidemic misconception about the roles of the two approaches; people believe a holistic approach is a true alternative when they have a serious medical problem. I would like to turn the table and ask who would schedule an appointment with a doctor to improve their feeling of synergy, become more in touch with their body, or to decrease their stress.
I believe the two approaches have their respective roles in improving quality of life. Holistic approaches do just that, treat the body as a whole; use this to that end to treat your body well. Allopathic approaches pretain to specific medical problems, so use this approach when a person has a specific problem.
Unfortunately, the commercialization and popularization of holistic medicine seems to be resulting in competition for the great financial wealth and societal respect allopathic medicine currently draws. I believe this is both disrespectful to the long standing cultural traditions from which much of holistic medicine is derived and is dangerously misleading to those who might indeed try to substitute one for the other.
I personally prefer alternative medicine whenever I can. It has no or minimal side effectsand I believe it is healthier. herbal medicine also cost less than conventional over the counter medicines.
I believe in the power of alternative medicine as a cure for our illness. There's a lot to mention and it only depends to you on what to try.
